Peru (and Machu Picchu) is OPEN for travel!!! This interim moment between the whole world opening up and all back to normalcy is the PERFECT opportunity for this hiker’s dream escape!
We all know Machu Picchu. AND there are several ways to get there.
We are taking The Salkantay Trek, which is an alternate to the Inca Trail.
Considered by most, who love to hike, to be a better alternative due to the stunning beauty and the lack of tourist crowds.
It is more rugged and remote, and significantly less crowded than the Inca Trail. Formidable views and awe-inspiring vistas all along the way. This is truly the path less traveled!!
Our 5-day Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu is perfect for adventurers who are looking to experience Peru’s everchanging landscapes. Day by day you will travel through changing ecosystems and scenery: from sweeping, magical landscapes and snowy mountains to a tropical jungle paradise. Along the way, you will see a wide variety of wildlife, medicinal plants, and flower varieties. Witness, with your own eyes, a living, and ancient, culture in remote villages hardly ever visited by foreigners!
You will need a reasonable level of fitness to complete the Salkantay Trek. Age is not a barrier! The most important thing is to be well-acclimatized to the altitude. The highest point you will reach on the trek is 15,256 FT.
We recommend at least two days of acclimatized before your journey. This is an ideal time for vising the city of Cusco, its nearby Inca ruins, and the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
This is not backpacking. Lodging for the three nights on the trail will be in rustic but pretty cool accommodations, including sky camp, Andean huts and jungle domes… each with either two twin beds or a single for couples. Meals are also included while trekking. Most of the gear is carried by horses.
